A little bit storm cloud, a little bit molten earth.
This signed studio pottery vessel has a wonderfully substantial rounded form, finished in a deep black glaze broken by flashes of rust, blue green, cream, and smoky gray.
Around the upper body, the glaze blooms into irregular cascading passages of pale cream and mineral blue. Up close, those areas become wonderfully complex, with tiny mottled textures and feathered edges, geological against the glossy dark ground.
The interior is glazed in the same dark, atmospheric palette, with blue green variation collecting along the rim and walls. A flower frog fits comfortably in the bottom.
The underside bears an incised maker's mark and appears to be dated '02.
